Rising suicide cases of students reported in Bhubaneswar has become a matter of grave concern. Amid a series of such cases, a private college student on Tuesday ended his life though the exact reason behind this is yet to be ascertained.

The deceased identified as Surya Prakash Palai was a Plus 2 first year student of a private college under Info Valley police limits and was residing in the college hostel. His body was found hanging from the college hostel on Tuesday morning.    

According to sources, Surya had scored good marks in HSC examination, but he had failed to secure good marks in Plus 2 examinations. He was in stress and for that reason for which he took the extreme to step to kill self.  However, his parents could not believe it easily that Surya could take this drastic step just because of poor grades.

On the other hand, college authorities said Surya was very much homesick and used to remember his family members alot.

Meanwhile, police and scientific team have begun probe into it.

The deceased’s uncle Prasant Kumar Biswal said, “Surya was a scholar student. He had secured 91 per cent in Class 10 board examination. There was no such pressure on him. He was telling me that as he had taken admission little late, he had missed a few classes. He was asking me to talk to principal sir to conduct some extra classes.”

On September 8, a B.Tech student from Chandrasekharpur area had taken the extreme step. 

Prior to B.Tech student’s death, a nursing student allegedly hanged herself to death inside her hostel room in Airfield police limits area in Bhubaneswar late Sunday evening.

In another case, a software engineer Sweta Kumari allegedly hanged herself to death at her apartment after being ‘betrayed’ by her boyfriend Soumyajeet.

Similarly, a married woman identified as Subhashree Mohapatra allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself inside her house in Shastri Nagar locality of Bhubaneswar.
