Banta police on Saturday landed in soup for forcibly picking up a wrong person.

According to sources, the man presumed to be innocent hails from Pradhanpada recently.

Police realised their mistake while forwarding the wrong person to court.

As per police, Police arrested Kartik Jena of Pradhanpada without any valid reason.

Police asked him to sign in warrant papers while he was being forwarded to court. From the signature, police understood that they had harrested accused’s namesake instead of the real accused.

Police later freed the innocent man.

Meanwhile, Kartik  has demanded action against police for tarnishing his image in the society.

It is learnt that police were looking for Kartik Jena who is a resident of Chainpur and a warrant was also issued against him. Instead of arresting the real accused, police nabbed Kartik Jena of Pradhanpada without verifying the details.

Police, however, could not be unavailable for comment.

The man Kartik said, “I was going to take bath when a team of police officers arrived at my house and arrested me.

They did not listen to me saying I would easily get bail in court. When they made me to sign in warrant papers, they realised that I was not the same Kartik.

We have got same names and our fathers’ names are also same. But our residential addresses are different. Our signatures are different. Realising their blunder, they free me later.”

“However, action should be taken against them for making me suffer without any reason”, added Kartik.
