Exactly a month after the murder case of Shraddha Walker in Delhi’s Mehrauli shook the nation to its core, a similar horrific killing of an Odia girl allegedly by her boyfriend in Surat of Gujarat has come to light.

The deceased, Luni Das, who lived in Bhubaneswar, was allegedly stabbed to death by her boyfriend, identified as Jagannath Gouda. Her body was found in a pool of blood with multiple stab injuries near Anjani Industrial Estate in Surat on December 15.

The Crime Branch of Surat City zeroed in on the accused after examining over 500 CCTV footage and call details.

As per sources, Luni had been in a relationship with the accused for three years. When she insisted on marriage, the accused hatched a plan to eliminate her.

As per the plan, the accused arrived in Bhubaneswar two weeks back and took the girl to Surat in Puri–Ahmedabad Express. He then took her to a secluded place and stabbed her to death. The accused was so furious with her marriage demand that he stabled her 49 times, sources said.

Sharad Singhal, joint police commissioner of Surat said, “It is a very difficult case and blind murder case. After scanning CCTV footage, we nabbed the accused. We will file the chargesheet in the case soon. Preliminary inquiry suggests that the accused was high on drugs and also very angry while committing the crime. He had a notion that she was mentally torturing him.”

Further investigation is underway into the case.
