In a bone-chilling incident, a  minor girl has been left battling for her life after she jumped off a school roof to escape gangrape bid by five persons late Sunday night. The victim has been admitted to Tata Medical where her condition was stated to be critical.

Meanwhile, Kalinganagar police swung into action and have detained the five accused in this connection. ‘

Sources said, the victim from Anandapur area in Keonjhar district was on her way to her sister’s house at Kaliapani along with her younger brother. The siblings took a bus and arrived at Duburi square from where they were going by foot to her sister’s house.

However, a few youths of Jhumphan intercepted them and asked them to stay the night at a local school roof and resume their journey in the morning. Trusting them, the two siblings took shelter on the roof of a school.

However, the five accused returned late in the night and tried to gangrape the girl. They first beat up the victim’s brother and chased him. When he went away, the five accused then overpowered the girl and tried to force themselves on her.

However, the girl jumped off the roof to resist the rape bid and sustained critical injuries. Hearing her brother's screams for help, locals rushed to the spot and alerted the cops.

The heinous incident has spread shockwaves in the area.
