At a time when Commissionerate Police claims to have initiated several measures to curb crimes in Bhubaneswar, a spurt in house burglary incidents, especially in Santoshi Vihar area under Laxmisagar police limits speaks the other way round.

Unidentified miscreants looted cash and gold ornaments from two houses located in Santoshi Vihar area late on Tuesday night. The series of theft came to light on Wednesday.

“We were asleep in the house when a thief entered our premises and looted 200 grams of gold ornaments and cash from one of the rooms,” said Mihir Samal.

According to Samal, nobody was asleep in the room from which the robber decamped with the valuables. “The thief might have entered the house after breaking the window grill. It is not the first time that such theft has been reported from the area. There have been at least six to seven such robberies in the past couple of months,” Samal added.

According to local residents, they had earlier urged the cops to intensify patrolling in the area in view of the rise in burglary incidents.

“The robbers have not taken the laptop, rather they only decamped with cash and other valuables including a smartwatch,” another complainant said.

Meanwhile, police officials could not be contacted over the burglary incidents.
