Police on Wednesday claimed to have cracked the mystery behind the death of a class 9 student in Rourkela. Senior police officials said that the victim died in a fight with two other friends following a dispute over a Bluetooth earphone.

The minor boy was bludgeoned to death in Kacharapulia area under Tangarpali Police Station in Sundargarh district. The matter came to light after the family of the deceased lodged a complaint on September 25. After tracking the phone details, police learned that the boy was in touch with two other minor friends, who were subsequently kept on surveillance.

“After the boy’s body was recovered and it was identified by his family, we questioned the two friends. During the investigation, we found that the victim had picked up a fight with three of his friends over a Bluetooth earphone. The electronic device belonged to a friend and the victim had not returned for which there was a dispute,” said Panposh SDPO, Upasana Padhi.

According to Padhi, two juveniles were involved in the incident while another minor boy had escaped from the spot fearing his parents. “The third boy was also not informed about the incident. We have seized two stones, one phone, and two bicycles,” Padhi added.
