Disatisfied with the sluggish investigation of Odisha Crime Branch into the mysterious death of Chittaranjan Palai who used to be a close aide of BJD leader and former Brahmagiri MLA Sanjay Das Burma, the deceased’s family demanded the state government to initiate an investigation by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Chittaranjan’s wife and uncle claimed that although more than 10 months have elapsed to the death of Chittaranjan, culprits are still on the run. Das Burma had assured to help them get speedy justice, but in vain.

They alleged that police had arrested two persons in this connection whereas the main conspirator is yet to be nabbed. They further accused Das Burma of shielding the main accused.

Blaming the former Brahmagiri MLA for suppressing the case, Chittaranjan’s wife and uncle said, “The deceased’s phone was opened in their absence. Also, the motorcycle used for killing Chittaranjan was not seized.  Even after 10 months, police have literally failed to unravel mystery behind the plot.

Notably, the body of Chittaranjan, a native of Sanabandhakera village in Brahmagiri tehsil of Puri District, was recovered under mysterious circumstances from near Nuanai in Puri district on December 13, 2021.

On the basis of the complaint of the family members of the deceased, Sadar police registered a murder case and launched an investigation.

Earlier, the family members of the deceased alleged involvement of Sanjay Das Burma in the case. In a complaint to Puri SP, the deceased’s uncle had alleged that Chittaranjan had gone to have a feast with his friend Jagannath Sarangi alias Jaga on December 11 and did not return home thereafter.

Two days later on December 13, his body was found floating in a channel of Bhargavi river. Alleging that his body bore several injury marks, Chittaranjan’s uncle alleged that he was murdered.
