Dasrathpur Tehsildar had a narrow escape when a sand mafia allegedly tried to mow him down near Pallisahi sand ghat under Kasapa gram panchayat in Jajpur district on Tuesday.

As per reports, Dasrathpur Tehsildar Biswajit Sethi had received a tip-off about illegal sand mining activities going on in the area.

Sethi then visited the spot along with other officials. On seeing him and others, many members of the sand mafia team tried to escape from the spot.

However, when Sethi asked one of them to stop mining and go with him to the police station, a tractor driver tried to crush him down under his vehicle but Sethi saved himself by jumping into a nearby pit. The driver managed to flee the spot and since then he has been absconding.

Sethi has lodged a complaint at the nearby police station. An investigation into the incident has been launched and police have started an operation to nab the accused.

“The sand mafia tried to mow me down under his tractor. I was fully alert for this kind of situation. I managed to escape by jumping into a pit. I have lodged a complaint in this regard at the local police station and hope that the accused will be arrested soon,” said Sethi.
