The Odisha Vigilance department on Thursday traced investment and insurance premium receipts of around Rs 50 lakh in names of the dismissed constable Prasanna Behera and his family members.

The insurance deposits were found in his quarters located at Kalpana Square in Bhubaneswar. As many as 21 bank passbooks have been unearthed during the house search. 

Behera was also found to have unauthorisedly extended the quarters by constructing eight more rooms which is being probed by the technical wing of the Vigilance.  

Today, five teams of Vigilance led by two DSPs, six inspectors and other staff carried out simultaneous searches on the property of Behera at five places.

Apart from his quarters at Kalpana Square, the Vigilance searched Spark furniture Pvt. Ltd. at Dumduma, Furniture Work Shop at Santha Vihar, Lingipur, South City Bar at Patrapada, and double-storeyed building at his native village Nuapada, Khordha.

According to the vigilance, Spark Furniture showroom on plot measuring area around 0.250 acre registered in 2019 with sale deed worth Rs 1,47,60,000 while cost of furniture showroom with built up area around 18,000 sqft, including basement and ground floor worth over 2 crore.

Similarly, one plot owns by Behera at Nuapada, Khordha costs Rs 45 lakh while one flat in the name of his spouse is worth Rs 24 lakh at Sundarpada. Besides, he owns four four-wheelers and two two-wheelers. 

“Vigilance technical wing has also been deputed to carry out valuation of buildings. This apart, Vigilance Finance Wing and Vigilance Forest Wing personnel along with professional furniture manufacturer have been roped in for valuation of huge number of costly furniture items displayed in the furniture showroom,” the Vigilance said in a statement.

Further searches are underway by the vigilance.
