Miscreants on Friday allegedly decamped with cash worth Rs 14 lakh after breaking open the treasury box of Central Cooperative Bank's Banki branch in Cuttack district.

The loot is suspected to be the work of some professional looters as they have also taken away hard disks and computers from the bank, and have also broken the CCTV camera. The loot reportedly occurred late Thursday night. The incident came to light after locals spotted the broken bank door this morning.

The burglars entered the bank after breaking the entry grill, sources said. After looting the treasury box, they tried to break open the locker, but in vain. After a failed attempt to break the locker in which more cash was kept, they reportedly took it away with them.

Sources said the burglars used gas cutters to break open the door and the treasury box. Locals have now asked the reasons why the bank officials were storing a huge amount of cash with no security arrangements in the bank.

On being informed, Cuttack SP along with other senior police officials reached the bank and launched a probe.
