Rourkela shocker: Minor girl ‘gang-raped’, sibling sexually assaulted; 2 youths detained

In a shameful incident, a minor girl was allegedly gang-raped and her sibling, who is also a minor, was sexually assaulted by some youths near Birsa Munda chhak in Rourkela on Saturday evening.

According to a source, the two sisters had gone to a market near Birsa Munda chhack when some youths allegedly picked them up and gang raped the younger sister.

They also sexually assaulted the elder sister (12), sources informed, adding that, a case in this regard has been lodged at Rourkela Plant Site police station.

“There were seven youths. Three of them gang-raped a minor girl and sexually assaulted the victim’s sister, who is also a minor. This is a very heinous act and we demand capital punishment for the accused,” said Pramila Das, a social activist.

Meanwhile, police have detained two youths in connection with the case.

Nirmala Kumar Mohapatra, Zone 2 DSP, said, “Acting on the complaint, a case has been registered at the Plant Site police station and we have detained two accused so far. A manhunt has also been launched to nab others involved in the case.”

“Medical examination of the victims will be performed and CWC will be informed about the incident. As per the directive from the DIG. two teams have been formed and raids are underway to nab the other accused,” Mohapatra added.
