Notorious cyber fraud, Raval Bhavik, has been nabbed by the Rourkela Police from Gujarat for allegedly defrauding a large sum of money from an unsuspecting man in the Steel City.

As per reports, Raval had developed contact with the victim for quite some time. Initially, he offered the victim to invest money in the stock market and provided him good returns.

Lured by the prospects of earning more, the victim invested more following which Raval paid back the capital with interests. However, when the victim invested a bigger amount with Raval, the latter made the vanishing act.

After the victim lodged a complaint at the Cyber Police Station in Rourkela, the cops launched a hunt and arrested the accused from Gujarat from where he was operating his business.

Speaking about the arrest, Rourkela SP, Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo said, “The modus operandi of the accused was to repay money to the investors initially. However, after gaining the trust of the victims he would tempt them to invest larger amounts and severe all contacts after receiving the money.”

“A case in this connection was registered at the Cyber Police station and we have been successful in apprehending the fraud. Further investigation in this connection is going on,” Bhamoo added.

As per the NCRB report, cyber crimes in the State have increased by 30 per cent in 2020 compared to the figures in the previous year. Last year, the elusive looters executed as many as 1931 crimes in the State.

Cyber expert Debasish Das said, “We should give up the greed of becoming Lakhpati overnight. Otherwise, we will continue to get such dubious links on our phone and get cheated.”
