Unidentified miscreants struck at the house of a former army officer in Ganjam district of Odisha late last night and decamped with cash, jewellery and other valuables as the family was away.

The burglary was reported at the house of K Aviram Reddy, a retired army officer, at Bishnu Priya Nagar under Digapahandi police jurisdiction. Reddy lodged a complaint about the burglary in this regard today.

In his complaint, Reddy said he along with other members of his family had gone to his native village Narendrapur on the occasion of Pongal festival. On their return today morning, they found the door of the house broken.

It appeared that the robbers gained entry into Reddy's house by breaking open the front as well as rear gates. They looted cash and jewellery from the house.

Reddy examined the footage of CCTV cameras installed by a neighbour who lives just opposite his house and found that the movement of the robbers had been captured on the cameras.

On the basis of his complaint, the Digapahandi police registered a case and launched a probe into the matter.
