The Odisha vigilance on Saturday arrested Rayagada Excise superintendent Nina Beura, a day after she was caught with unaccounted cash of Rs 6 lakh in a car near Khordha.

Beura's husband Nihar Ranjan Das, who is posted as IIC of Mahanga police station, has been directed to appear at the Vigilance office after being found missing from his residence at Mahanga during raid by the officials of the anti-corruption agency.

Following a tipoff, Beura was intercepted by a team of Odisha Vigilance at around 11.30 pm yesterday when she was on her way to Bhubaneswar from Rayagada.

During search, Rs 6 lakh was recovered from her possession, which she could not account for satisfactorily.

Subsequently, searches were carried out at different residential areas linked to Beura and her relatives.

“Her husband, on getting tip-off, left Mahanga police station to evade search. The vigilance team, on reaching his quarter at Mahanga, found it locked and the IIC untraceable,” the Vigilance said in a statement.

“He has been asked to report to Bhubaneswar vigilance division for enquiry. Further searches are underway,” the Vigilance added.
