Two students have been arrested by police for their alleged involvement in a ragging case at Aska Science College. The accused students, identified as Debasish Swain and Kailash Swain, were arrested based on the complaint filed by one +3 first-year girl student.

It is alleged that four students including Debasish and Kailash intercepted the girl student and misbehaved with her while she was returning home after college on January 3. The four students also allegedly threatened the girl’s brother to attack and assault him.

Jibanand Tripathy, Principal of Aska Science College, informed that earlier several complaints of gross indiscipline and misconduct were received against the student Debasish Swain and a notice was also served three months back.

“The parents of Debasish had also given a written undertaking and the staff council had also recommended to hand over compulsory transfer certificate to him. The Anti Ragging Cell and Disciplinary Committee had also recommended the same,” said Tripathy.

Based on the written complaint filed by the girl student, the college had reported the matter to police and transfer certificate was sent to his parents, he said.

“As two other students are first-year students, we have served a notice and asked their parents to depose before the committee. If no change is observed in the conduct of these students, we will issue transfer certificates to them in subsequent phases,” Tripathy added.
