As many as three members of a family sustained grievous injuries after they were allegedly attacked by a group of youths following a minor altercation over flying kites at Bateshwar-Behera Sahi in Balasore on Saturday.

The injured persons have been identified as Anup Saha, local resident of Bateshwar Sahi and his two sons. All three have been admitted to Balasore District Headquarters Hospital for treatment after the violence.

A complaint in this regard was lodged at Balasore Town Police Station by Saha's family. A probe has also been initiated in connection with the incident.

As per reports, Anup’s two sons were flying kites near their house when around 12 to 15 youths from Behera Sahi who were also flying kites allegedly cut the kite strings of the duo several times.

It is being said that the two brothers pleaded the youths not to entangle their kite strings, but as the latter hurled abuses, it triggered an argument between the two groups.

Later, the youths from Behera Sahi attacked the two brothers with stones and a wooden bat. Anup rushed to the spot in an order to save his sons and requested the rival group to spare them but they did not hear and instead attacked him.

“We were flying kite but the other groups cut the string of my kite multiple times. I asked them to refrain, however, they started abusing us. I initially ignored but later when I opposed them, they beat us mercilessly,” alleged Anup’s younger son who has received severe injuries on his head.

Narrating the case, Anup Saha said, “I saw many youths thrashing my sons. I ran to save them and requested the attackers to resolve the matter through talks. But they refused and attacked me too.”
