Odisha on Wednesday woke up to a horrible news of a quadruple murder rocking Ganjam district late last night with four members of a family allegedly killed near Pitala chhak under Hinjilicut police station.

The incident is stated to have occured during a clash between two groups over passing of objectionable comments late Tuesday night.

The deceased have been identified as one Mangulu Swain’s three sons- Sambhu Swain, Pandura Swain, Raja Swain and his nephew Chandan Swain of Narendrapur area.

One person from the attacking group also sustained injuries in the clash and has been admitted to MKCG hospital in Berhampur. At least two persons have been detained in connection with the case.

According to sources, the four brothers were allegedly attacked by a group of six persons from Ramachandrapur area while they were about to shut their fast-food shop at Pitala Chaak.

The assailants reportedly attacked the Swain brothers with iron roads and lathis leaving them critically injured. 

Soon after the incident, Police reached the spot and rescued the injured lying in a critical condition. They were immediately rushed to Berhampur hospital where treating physicians declared them brought dead.

Sources said, Pandura and one of his brothers allegedly passed some objectionable comments on two youths while they were extending help to a couple who met with an accident at around 10 pm yesterday. 

The two youths left the place following an altercation with the Swain brothers. However, the incident turned violent when a group of people attacked the four brothers while they were shutting down their shop.

Further investigation into the matter is on.
