Private ITI student battles for life after consuming poison, family alleges ragging fallout

A student pursuing ITI from a private college is battling for his life after he allegedly consumed poison on Friday. The student reportedly took the step soon after returning from his college in Bhadrak yesterday.

The family members alleged that the student attempted to kill self by consuming poison. The student’s brother alleged that he might have resorted to the extreme after being subjected to some ragging at the college.

“My brother was studying in the private ITI. Some students have abused him and he consumed poison without informing anybody at home,” alleged the student’s brother.

The family members further demanded the administration to take concrete measures so that no other student fall victim to ragging menace.

Following the incident, the student was initially rushed to Tihidi and then to Bhadrak district headquarters hospital. Later, he was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital. The student’s condition is reportedly critical and as he is yet to gain consciousness.

The college authorities could not be contacted for comments on the incident and the allegations.
