Unidentified miscreants lobbed crude bombs at the residence of Jayanti Patra, the newly-elected chairperson of Dhenkanal municipality late last night.

It is the second time that miscreants have targeted the elected BJP leader's house. On March 30, Jayanti had alleged that shots were fired in front of her house and death threats were issued to her. She had then accused the workers of the ruling BJD of resorting to blank firing and issuing death threats to her.

“We were sleeping when some miscreants hurled bombs at the main gate of my house. From the CCTV, we ascertained that the incident occurred at around 1:40 am. We suspect involvement of our political rivals behind the bombing,” said Jayanti.

Jayanti further urged Odisha police officials to provide security to her family. Jayanti’s husband Ram Patra said, “Senior police officials visited the spot and have collected some remnants of the bomb. The gate and some vehicles have been partly damaged in the bombing.”

"There was a firing incident and now bombing, such incidents are intended to terrorize us. Our rivals are resorting to such tactics as they fear their corruption will be exposed, but we are not afraid of such incidents,” he added.
