Police on Saturday demolished the house of Ranju, the accused in Chandu murder case for encroaching upon government land and constructing a house on it as well as running drug trade from her house.

On September 9, Ranju and her associate Kanha had killed P Subrat Rao alias Chandu over extortion at a slum in Bhubaneswar's Unit-8.

Unravelling the mystery behind Chandu’s murder, Deputy Commissioner of Police Prateek Singh had said, “Chandu used to be an antisocial. As many as seven cases are pending against him.  He used to visit Ranju’s house and extort money from her. Some days back, Chandu had assaulted Ranju’s sister when the latter failed to give him money. This had happened in the absence of Ranju and Kanha. On the fateful day, Chandu had gone to extort money when Ranju and Kanha beat him to death.”

Ranju and Kanha had fled the scene after committing the crime. They were planning to leave for Kerala when police arrested them from Tara Singh area of Ganjam.

Raju had gone to jail twice earlier for her alleged involvement in drug trade.

Chandu’s family members had earlier alleged that Chandu was killed for opposing narcotics trade at Narayani slum area in the Capital city. They even claimed that Chandu was sharing information about the narcotics trade with Commissionerate Police officials.
