The Plus II student of a private college, who had been reported missing by his parents, had not actually gone missing. It is his parents who had knowingly registered a false missing report. Bhubaneswar Zone-6 ACP revealed this at a press conference on Sunday.

“The CCTV footage helped us solve the case. The student had not deposited the college fees amounting to Rs 95,000. Since the college authorities had been pressurising him to pay the outstanding money, he had decided to leave the college,” said the officer.

“After leaving the college campus, he had stayed in a hotel. And his family members were well aware of the developments. The next day, they had gone to the college after meeting their son at the hotel and had an altercation with the college authorities,” added the cop.

“Later they had taken their son along with them after paying the hotel bill,” informed the ACP, adding the parents would be interrogated.

Notably, the student, identified as Hrudesh Panda, a student of a private college located in Patia area was reported missing by his father. He had lodged a complaint at Chandrasekharpur police station against the college chairman accusing him of scolding his son.

Acting on the complaint, the police had started an investigation and managed to solve the mystery.
