Alleging massive irregularities in the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in Odisha, BJP urged the State government to announce a deadline for taking action against the corrupt officials.

“Besides, the State government should also clear the air about the survey of real beneficiaries of the Centrally sponsored scheme sans favouritism,” said BJP General Secretary Prithviraj Harichandan.

The saffron party also challenged the ruling party in the State to come up with a deadline to provide pucca houses to the genuine beneficiaries under the scheme.

As per the allegation by the Opposition party, while the Union government has allotted 8,17,000 houses under PMAY scheme, only around 6,000 beneficiaries in the western and border areas of the State have been benefitted by the scheme.

“So far the Odisha government has allotted only 2,95,000 houses to the beneficiaries in the State under PMAY. The Union government failed to meet its target of completing the construction of 26,95,000 houses by April 7,2022 due to massive corruption and favouritism by the State government,” alleged Harichandan.

“The State government has so far completed 62 per cent of the total target set by the Centre. The Union government is eager to provide 93 lakh more houses under PMAY. However, massive irregularities and favouritism by the State government has emerged as a major bottleneck in this regard,” the senior BJP leader rued.
