Adulterated Milk Manufacturing unit busted in Jagatpur
The Commissionerate Police on Monday busted a unit allegedly engaged in manufacturing of adulterated milk and milk products including curd and lassi in Cuttack. The unit was busted at Atada area under Jagatpur police limits.
ADCP Anil Mishra informed that a joint raid was conducted at Atada village after allegations that a milk processing unit has been set up in the area and milk is prepared at unhygienic conditions. Based on the allegations, a joint team of Commissionerate police and health officials conducted a raid today.
“Today, we have taken samples and seized skimmed milk powder, sodium hydroxide and other chemicals. The milk was released in the market in the name of Rohini brand,” said Mishra.
According to Mishra, the skimmed milk powder was mixed with normal tap water. There was no chemist or pasteurisation process was being followed at the unit. Similarly, no norms of levelling and weights and measurement were also being followed. Normal milk is pasteurised and released in the market. But here the owner was not following any norms. The items were being sold in markets of Puri, Kendrapara and Choudwar.
“The raw items were being procured from Maharashtra. Some milk packets had advanced manufacturing dates. Trade license and other documents will be verified. The samples collected will be sent to the lab for tests. The unit will be sealed and the owner has been detained. After a probe, action will be taken as per law,” Mishra added.
