It could be hard for anyone to think that youths, properly dressed and carrying airbags, would actually be drug peddlers. Perhaps this is now the latest strategy to deceive enforcement agencies while smuggling contraband from one state to another.

The Excise officials busted such strategy of 5 youths from Bihar who were allegedly trying to smuggle Ganja (dry cannabis) from Odisha via train. All the five accused had procured the Ganja from Kandhamal district and had reached Bhubaneswar via bus. As liquor is now banned in Bihar, there is a rise in demand for Ganja, especially sourced from Odisha.

The peddlers are coming up with new strategies and means to smuggle Ganja from the state to Bihar.

Excise Inspector said, “The youths from Bihar had procured the Ganja from Kandhamal. They had packed the Ganja consignment in airbags and were trying to smuggle it to Bihar via train. We have seized 30 kgs of Ganja from them.”

In view of the General Elections 2024, the Excise Department has stepped up vigil on the illegal narcotics trade. “The youths used to procure Ganja at low cost and used to sell them in Bihar at much higher rates,” the Excise Inspector added.
