An attendant of a patient, who is currently undergoing treatment at Burla Medical College and Hospital, was allegedly murdered in Sambalpur on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Lambodar Nayak from Chhatabara village under Mahulpali police station in the district.

As per reports, a relative of the deceased was admitted to the Burla MCH a few days back. Since then, Nayak had been attending to the patient.

In the wee hours of Thursday, Nayak had gone to a field near Goudapali canal to relieve himself when some miscreants allegedly attacked him.

Upon being informed, Mahulpali police reached the spot and started an investigation into the incident. Though the motive of the murder is yet to be ascertained, police are suspecting that some miscreants might have killed Nayak while trying to snatch money from him.

“We are suspecting that the miscreants might have tried to snatch money from Nayak and when he resisted, they killed him," said a police official, adding, “A scientific team and a sniffer dog have been pressed into action. We are hopeful of nabbing the criminals soon.”
