Panchayat Samiti member found hanging inside her room in Odisha 

A Panchayat Samiti member was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her room at Matia Sahi of Angulei Panchayat under Marshaghai police limits in Kendrapara district on Saturday. 

The deceased has been identified as Geeta Pradhan, Samiti member of Dumuka Panchayat who was elected on reserved quota. 

According to her family members, Geeta didn’t come out of her room even after her usual time of coming out. After finding their knockings on the door unanswered, her husband and family members broke open the door only to find her body hanging from the ceiling fan. 

They immediately informed the police. A team from Marshaghai police station along with a scientific team reached the spot. In the presence of Tehsildar, the police brought down the body and sent it to Kendrapara district headquarters hospital (DHH) for autopsy. 

While no suicide note was found in the room, the police have seized the deceased’s mobile phone which may help them solve the case. 

Meanwhile, the police said it was too early to say anything about the reason why she had taken the extreme step, but their preliminary investigation suggests family dispute to be the reason. The cops have launched a probe from all angles.  

According to the neighbours, there used to be quarrels between the couple.  

On the basis of the complaint lodged by the deceased’s brother, the police have registered a case and launched a probe. They reportedly interrogated the deceased’s husband, her in-laws and her brother.
