The Chairperson of Odisha State Commission for Women (OSCW), Minati Behera on Saturday visited the home of Mamita Meher, the murdered lady teacher of Sunshine English Medium School, at Jharni under Bolangir’s Tureikela Police limits.

As per reports, she reached Bolangir yesterday and held a discussion with the SP regarding the case.

Behera is scheduled to inspect the crime scene at Mahaling in Kalahandi, today, where Mamita Meher’s body was found buried.

Sources said, Behera is also likely to visit the school where Mamita was a teacher and review the safety and security of the students reading there.

It is pertinent to mention here that taking cognisance of the murder of Mamita Meher, the OSCW on Wednesday sought a detailed report of the case from the SP, Kalahandi.

Terming the murder as ‘shameful’, the premier women’s rights body in the State has directed the office of the Kalahandi SP to furnish a detailed report within 15 days, from today.

Gobinda Sahu, the prime suspect in the disappearance of Mamita Meher, confessed to have killed the lady teacher soon after his arrest for interrogation. Based on the confession, the Bolangir Police detained three other persons including, Sahu’s associate Radhe, JCB driver and a clerk at the under construction stadium who allegedly helped him bury Mamita’s body at the site near the Government High School at Mahaling in Kalahandi.

Gobinda Sahu was nabbed by police in Bolangir on Tuesday evening. Sources said police traced Sahu to a sugarcane field at Budhipadar village under Bangamunda block of Bolangir where he had been reportedly hiding. He was later taken to the Bolangir SP office for detailed questioning in connection with the case.
