Gold Seized At Bengaluru Airport
In a major operation, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) successfully seized foreign-origin gold bars worth over Rs 12 crore from a passenger at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru.
The DRI officials intercepted the passenger carrying foreign-origin gold bars which has been valued at Rs 12.56 crore. The development came on a specific intelligence input regarding alleged gold smuggling.
As per official sources, a 33-year-old Indian lady passenger, who had arrived from Dubai to Bengaluru via Emirates Flight on March 3, was intercepted by the DRI officials.

Upon examination, gold bars weighing 14.2 kg was found concealed which was valued at Rs 12.56 crore has been seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.
Subsequently after the interception, the DRI officials conducted a search at her residential premises located at Lavelle Road, Bengaluru where the lady stays with her husband.
The DRI officials informed that further gold jewellery worth Rs 2.06 crore and Indian currency worth Rs 2.67 crore was seized. The concerned lady passenger has been placed under arrest under the relevant provisions of the Customs Act. She has been remanded to judicial custody.
The total seizure in the case now stands at Rs 17.29 crore, which marks a significant blow to the organised gold smuggling racket. The haul of 14.2 kg is said to be the one of the biggest seizures of gold at Bengaluru international airport in recent times.
