Crime spot
The residents of Lefripada town in Sundargarh district on Friday woke up to a shocking sight of an unidentified youth along with a scooter charred beyond recognition in a haystack.
The unsettling scene was found behind the Navodaya School in Sargipalli under Lefripara police limits.
As per the reports, some local people first spotted the haystack on fire. As it was harvest time, they thought a farmer might have set his haystack on fire. It was when they found the flame was ragging violently that they informed the police and the fire department.
On being informed, a team from Lefripada police station and a fire engine reached the spot.
As the fire was tamed, a ghastly scene of a youth charred to death surfaced, leaving one and all shocked.
Since the body was burnt beyond recognition, the deceased was yet to be identified. The police could have gathered some information from the scooter’s number plate or engine and chassis number had it not been reduced to ashes.
It is being discussed in the locality that it would be a hard nut for the police to crack.
The police are trying to find out whether miscreants set him on fire alive or murdered him somewhere else before setting the body on fire with the haystack.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising concerns over safety and provoking discussions on the need for enhanced security measures.
The police have launched a detailed investigation to ascertain the identity of the deceased.
