Odisha Youth Ends Life During Video Chat With Girl

A youth ended his life on Monday while he was on video call with a girl at Kakatpur in Puri district. A video grab showing the extreme act by the youth is presently doing the rounds on social media.

As per reports, the youth, identified as Prateya Jena from Jagatsinghpur district ended his life while he was chatting with the girl over video call. Jena worked at a garment showroom in Chandanbazar area of Kakatpur town. 

"He (Prateya Jena) worked at the garment showroom. His colleagues informed us about the incident after they received a video on WhatsApp, following which we rushed to the spot. We immediately informed the police about the incident," said a close relative of the deceased.

The police team reached the spot and the body was recovered following the arrival of a forensic team. Though police have launched a probe into the incident, Jena's relationship with the girl is yet to be disclosed, informed sources.

"The youth was found hanging from the ceiling. The body was recovered in the presence of his family members and a magistrate. We can ascertain anything only after receiving the post-mortem and investigation report," said Purnachandra Pradhan, Additional SP, Puri. 

The reason behind Jena ending his life still remains a mystery.

A similar incident has been reported today from Bhubaneswar where a youth ended his life leaving behind a suicide note in which he has held his girlfriend responsible for his death. As claimed in the suicide note, the girl cheated on him, hastening him for the extreme step.
