Odisha woman gang-raped in Jajpur forest, 2 arrested 

A woman was allegedly gang-raped by two men while she had gone to graze goats near Bhalukhai forest in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Tuesday. 

According to sources, the survivor had gone to the nearby forest under Bairi police station limits when she was allegedly waylaid and raped by two local men. Based on her complaint, police launched an immediate investigation and sent her for medical examination as part of the procedure.

The police also arrested the accused who have been identified as Bhajaman Bhoi and Sunanda Pihu, both residents of the same locality. The police arrested them shortly after the incident was reported.

While the motive behind the crime is still under investigation, locals claim the accused and the survivor were known to each other. However, the nature of the crime has left the community in shock.

“The survivor has accused Bhajaman Bhoi and Sananda Pihu of gang raping her in Bhalumara forest while she was on her way to graze goats. Upon being informed, we conducted a raid and arrested the two accused,” said Ansumala Das, IIC, Bairi police station.
