Tension gripped Khallikote Police Station in Ganjam after hundreds of villagers carrying traditional weapons like bows and arrows gheraoed the police station on Saturday. The agitators demanded the release of two persons from their village who were earlier arrested. 

According to sources, Khallikote Police had conducted a raid on a country liquor brewery at Badapalli village on Friday. The raiding party had destroyed a huge amount of liquor and arrested two persons for their links with the brewery.

The villagers alleged that the two arrested persons were innocent. The agitating villagers demanded their immediate release and compensation. 

Keeping the seriousness of the situation in view, Ganjam’s additional SP, Chhatrapur SDPO, IICs of three police stations, and one platoon of police force were deployed at the spot.
