A team of the Special Task Force (STF) on Tuesday seized over one kg heroin, whose estimated market value is said to be over Rs 1 crore, from Keonjhar.

A drug peddler, identified as Rajendra Kumar Majhi (46), has been arrested in this connection. He was nabbed following a raid near NH-49 in Jodiaghati of Keonjhar by the STF team from Bhubaneswar on Monday.

Senior STF officials said, heroin weighing 1080 gm and other incriminating materials were recovered and seized from the possession of the accused. A case under section 21(c) of NDPS Act 1985 has been registered and further investigation in this connection is underway.

It is pertinent to mention here that the STF has been continuing its special drive against illegal narcotics trade in the state since 2020. Since 2020, the STF has seized more than 74 Kg of Brown Sugar/Heroin, 202 grams of Cocaine and more than 116 quintals of Ganja/Marijuana, Opium 3 kg 630 gram in multiple cases across the state.

Over 184 drug dealers/peddlers have also been arrested in such cases. Apart from this, the STF has also destroyed over 62 Kg of seized brown sugar in the last one year.
