Odisha’s crime graph shows upward trend in last 5 years 

If Home (MoS) Minister Tusharkanti Behera’s reply to the question of legislator Kusum Tete is any indication, the crime graph of the State Odisha is showing an upward trend. 

The cases of murder, robbery, dacoity, burglary etc. have increased in the last five years. 

In a written reply to a question raised by BJP MLA Kusum Tete regarding the number of crimes occurred in the last five years starting 2018, Home (MoS) Minister Tusharkanti Behera said the number of crimes has increased in the last five years. 

Behera said there were a total of 1,07,408 cases registered in different police stations across the State in 2018. In 2019, the number of cases increased to 1,21,525. The number of cases increased further in 2020. A total of 1,34,230 cases were registered at different police stations across the State. Similarly, the number of cases registered in 2021 stood at 1,55,420. In 2022, different police stations across the State registered as many as 1,78,190 cases. 

Of the 1,07,408 cases registered in 2018, the numbers of murder, dacoity, robbery, burglary, theft, swindling, rioting, rape, MV accident cases were 1378, 558, 2125, 3713, 9069, 2794, 2120, 2502 and 11262 respectively. 

Similarly, the numbers of murder, dacoity, robbery, burglary, theft, swindling, rioting, rape, MV accident cases registered in 2019 were 1356, 587, 2492, 4149, 10766, 3807, 1993 and 2950 respectively. 

In 2020, highest number of 10412 theft cases were registered at different police stations across the State, followed by MV accident (9817), burglary (4500), swindling (3524), rape (2984), robbery (2166), rioting (2059), murder (1470) and dacoity (514). 

Likewise, in 2021, the numbers of murder, dacoity, robbery, burglary, theft, swindling, rioting, rape, MV accident cases registered were 1394, 552, 2826, 5133, 13024, 5138, 2220, 3327 and 10983 respectively. 

Of the 1,78,190 cases registered in 2022, a total number of 1379 murder cases were registered at different police stations across the State. Similarly, the numbers of dacoity, robbery, burglary, theft, swindling, rioting, rape, MV accident cases registered were 626, 2998, 5467, 14893, 5352, 2248, 3184 and 11663 respectively. 

Miscellaneous cases registered in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 were 71887, 82361, 96784, 110823, 130380 respectively.
