Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Odisha has seen a dramatic rise in cyber crimes and the monthly report of the Cyber Help Desk in Bhubaneswar stands testament to the trend.

As per the monthly summary of the Cyber Help Desk of Bhubaneswar Urban Police District, a total of 414 cheating cases were registered at the Bhubaneswar Anti-Fraud Cell in December 2021 at the rate of more than 13 cases every day.

Importantly, of the 414 cases, the Capital city of Bhubaneswar reported 213 cases while 201 cases were filed in other districts of Odisha. 

Meanwhile, UPI transactions constituted the maximum cheating cases in December with 100 such frauds taking place in Bhubaneswar alone.

Recently, the Bhubaneswar Commissionerate Police informed that as many as 791 unsuspecting Capital city residents fell to prey to conmen in 11 months- from January 2021 to November 2021.
