The deceased officer has been identified as Pabitra Golapi, a native of Koraput district, who was currently posted at the Kegaon Police Station and had recently been working at the Bhawanipatna Reserve Police office.
The body was discovered early on Saturday by locals who noticed smoke and alerted the authorities. The mysterious nature of the incident has sparked a major investigation. Whether it is a case of suicide, an accident, or a meticulously planned murder is yet to be determined.
Senior police officers, including the Additional Superintendent of Policeof Kalahandi, reached the scene with a forensic team and initiated an on-the-spot probe. The area has been cordoned off for evidence collection, and the remains of the body were sent for post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.
