Odisha man 'beats wife to death, ends life'

A man ended his life by consuming poison after coming to know about the death of his wife who was undergoing treatment for injuries she suffered during a quarrel between the two over a family dispute late night on Monday. 

The victims have been identified as Babu Das, a resident of Tilada village under Khaira Police limits in Balasore district and his wife, Minati Das. 

According to neighbours, Babu and Minati had a nasty quarrel on Monday night. The scene turned ugly when Babu lost control and started beating his wife mercilessly till she collapsed on the ground. She was rescued by family members and rushed to Khaira hospital. While undergoing treatment, she breathed her last.

Back in the village, Babu was in his house. It is suspected that after coming to know about his wife’s death, Babu may have lost his mental balance and consumed poison. 

On being informed, police reached the village and arrested Babu. Later, they sent him to Bhadrak district headquarters hospital for treatment. While undergoing treatment, he died on Tuesday morning. 

“According to their (deceased couple) children, they entered into an altercation on Monday night. Later Babu beat his wife up. She was rescued, and sent to hospital, where she died. After coming to know about his wife’s death, he also consumed poison,” said a neighbour.
