A man from Odisha has now landed behind bars on charges of selling the kidney of his wife. Police have arrested one Prasant Kundu from Katameta village under Malkangiri police limits for allegedly selling his wife’s kidney in 2018.

According to the complaint, Prasant brought his wife Ranjita for some check at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar and cunningly operated on one of her kidneys without her knowledge.

It has been alleged that Prasant later transplanted the kidney to another patient at the hospital. The matter came to light when Ranjita reported about the incident recently.

Later, she along with her family members and villagers lodged a complaint at Malkangiri Police station on August 24, 2022.

Taking strong cognizance of the incident, police launched a probe and arrested the accused. Meanwhile, Prasant’s wife has demanded the strictest punishment for him.
