The West Bengal Police with the help of the Odisha Excise Department on Friday arrested five drug peddlers from Dum Dum in North 24 Parganas district of the neighbouring state and seized five kilograms of brown sugar worth over Rs 5 crore from their possession.

The five accused have been identified as SK Rasid, Irshad Khan, Mohammad Salim, SK Tair, SK Amir while the sixth person who was driving the SUV is yet to be identified. All of them belong to Jaleswar area of Balasore district.

In another incident, a team of Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Police's Crime Branch along with Commissonerate Police arrested three persons in Bhubaneswar and recovered more than 40 kilograms of Ganja from their possession. 

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of STF and Nandankanan Police stopped a car near Crown Hotel in Jaydev Vihar area under Nayapalli Police Station limits yesterday and seized the narcotics upon searching the vehicle.

A case has been registered at Nayapalli Police Station and further investigation into the incident is underway.

Since 2022, the STF in the special drive against narcotic drugs has seized more than 44 Kg of Brown Sugar/Heroin and more than 87 quintals of Ganja/Marijuana and arrested more than 110 drug dealers/peddlers, informed the special task force in a press release.
