The Odisha Vigilance sleuths arrested Ramesh Chandra Pattnaik, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 6,000, on Tuesday.

Pattnaik, who is posted at Thuamul Rampur police station of Kalahandi district, was apprehended by the sleuths of the anti-corruption unit today evening while accepting the bribe from a person (complainant) to facilitate him in an inquiry. 

The total bribe money has been recovered from Pattnaik and seized, the vigilance said. 

Following Patnaik’s arrest, simultaneous searches were carried out on his properties at three places in Kalahandi district. 

A case has been registered at Koraput Vigilance police station in this regard. Further investigation into the case is underway, the Vigilance added.
