The Gopalpur Police Outpost in-charge in Balasore district has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman constable, who was posted at the outpost on Cyclone Yaas duty.

The accused has been identified as Basidhar Pradhan. He will be sent for medical examination and court forwarded, informed police sources. 

The matter came to the fore after the woman constable lodged a complaint in this regard at the Balasore Town Police Station on Friday.

As per reports, the woman constable, posted at Khantapada Police Station was engaged in duty at Gopalpur Police Outpost in view of the Very Severe Cyclonic Storm, Yaas.

While she was on duty at the police outpost, Pradhan allegedly misbehaved and later raped her.

"A rape complaint has been received from a female staff. Based on the complaint, an investigation has been launched while the details of the case will be known only after I go through the FIR. The complaint has been filed at the Town Police Station and legal action has been taken," informed Balasore SP Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra.

Further investigation into the matter is underway, he added.
