A team of CID Crime Branch (CB), Odisha arrested a Nigerian national, Patrick Chizorom Orajaka (35 yrs) from New Delhi in connection with a cyber fraud case. Patrick was arrested on the charges of cheating a woman from Cuttack to the tune of Rs 28.67 lakh.
In her complaint, the victim alleged that an Instagram user, pretending to be a Gynecologist from Netherlands, had contacted her on the social media platform. Subsequently, the victim started communicating with the accused on WhatsApp.

Soon, both developed friendship and after five days, the accused intimated her that he was coming to India to meet her. Senior police officials said that the complainant subsequently received a call and the caller introduced herself to be a Customs Officer from New Delhi Airport.
The caller informed that one relative, who came to India to meet her, was carrying 90,000 EURO with him and it was against the rule for which he has been detained.
“In order to get her friend freed, the victim deposited money in a phase wise manner in different accounts. On realising that she has been cheated, she later lodged a complaint with CID CB Cyber Crime Police Station on November 16, 2022,” a senior official said.
Meanwhile, police officials have seized 16 debit cards, 12 mobile phones, 22 bank passbooks and 20 SIM cards registered in UPI/ IMPS transactions from the accused.
