A nurse was allegedly murdered by her in-laws at Govindpur village under Tomando police limits in Bhubaneswar on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Sushree Sangeeta, who worked at a private nursing home. Her family members alleged that she was murdered.

According to the family members, Sushree, a resident of Baarana village in Niali area, married Pravin Chandra Nayak of Govidpur village in 2021. They received a call from her in-laws informing them that their daughter had collapsed while preparation for Diwali was underway.

Upon reaching, they found that the body had been taken to AIIMS in Bhubaneswar. This caused them to believe their daughter had been killed. They alleged her in-laws had been pressurising her to do the job and bring more money home.

“When we reached AIIMS, we found her husband and sister-in-law in the post-mortem room and her father-in-law and mother-in-law were missing. If we could reach the hospital from Niali by covering a distance of 60 kilometres, why they couldn’t reach the hospital from a place that is just three kilometres away. They murdered my sister and are now passing it off as a suicide case,” said Arabinda Bastia, deceased’s brother.

“My daughter has been murdered. Her death occurred at 7 pm and we were informed at 11.30 pm,” alleged Kanak Bastia, deceased’s mother.

The deceased’s mother-in-law Sabitri Nayak termed the murder allegations as baseless.

“We all loved her. Yesterday, she and her sister-in-law had food while my son was playing game on his mobile phone. Thereafter, they exchanged words upon which she ran into her room and bolted the door from inside,” she claimed.

Meanwhile, the deceased’s husband and father-in-law have been absconding since Monday night.

In this regard, no police reaction has been received as yet.
