Cuttack cyber police station officials arrested two persons on charges of extorting Rs 8.5 lakh from a city-based senior citizen by threatening him after making nude video calls. The accused, identified as Md Azaruddin Ansari alias Bilal and Sakir Khan have been arrested from Bharatpur district in Rajasthan.

Both the accused are part of a major criminal gang involved in targeting people after sending friend requests on Facebook, said Cuttack DCP, Pinak Mishra.

According to Mishra, both the accused have been brought on a transit remand and further investigation is underway.

“The accused were arrested after a detailed investigation that continued for nearly 12 days. The gang reportedly had made nude calls and extorted Rs 8.5 lakh from a senior citizen on March 22. The gang had threatened the victim to make the morphed pictures viral on social media," said Mishra.

The Cuttack DCP further informed that usually in such cases, most of the victims do not report to the police fearing public shaming and other issues. As the gang uses fake SIMs, it is very difficult to ascertain the identity, the DCP said.

“We have been able to recover Rs 1 lakh, and as the gang usually diverts the money to various other accounts through multiple transactions. We have also seized 16 mobile phones used in the crime, 20 SIM cards of various service providers, and other documents,” Mishra added.
