Do you remember Hemant Das, the notorious thief who is allegedly involved in 500 burglary cases across the country? Well, Hemant has again landed in police net. This time, he has been arrested by Badambadi Police in connection with a theft case.

Sources said Hemant is accused of stealing from a medicine store at Badambadi area. As per reports, Hemant hails from Hatasahi area under Lingaraj Police Station limits in Bhubaneswar.

Popularly known as the ‘crowbar man’, Hemant was arrested by Commissionerate Police in February last year in connection with the theft of gold ornaments worth over Rs 3 lakh from a house. Following his arrest, Police had then shared startling facts about the notorious thief.

According to Police, Hemant was first arrested in connection with an assault case in the 1980s. It was during his stay in jail that he developed proximity with a burglar who taught him the tricks of the trade.

From 1986 onwards, Hemant became a professional burglar. Hemant had earlier confessed to his involvement in over 500 cases across the country including more than 100 in Odisha; police so far have confirmed his involvement in 110 cases.

Hemant used to lead a high life and mostly spent the money and articles looted by staying in five-star hotels and splurged on call girls when he travelled to different parts of the country.
