The charge-sheet in the high-profile murder case of Naba Das filed by the Odisha Police Crime Branch in a court in Jharsuguda district against accused Gopal Das is once again in the news.

Senior advocate Satya Bohidar has highlighted a new fact that has been mentioned in the charge-sheet.

According to advocate Bohidar, the Crime Branch in its charge-sheet has mentioned deceased Naba Das as the first witness.

He further asked if the police couldn’t record Das’ dying declaration before his death, how he can be made the first witness.

“It is mentioned in the charge-sheet that Naba Das is the victim and witness. After seeing the charge-sheet, it seems to me that it has been prepared as per a plan. The question here is why they (the police) didn’t record his dying declaration. They could have recorded it with the help of a doctor. It seems the Crime Branch has exercised its brain to protect someone. And the Crime Branch can only say who is that person,” said Bohidar.

Earlier on Wednesday, accused Gopal Das was brought from Choudwar jail and produced in the Jharsuguda ADJ court. Das’ new advocates Mahesh Jena and Sunil Swain informed that their client will be produced in the ADJ court again on August 21.

At the same time, accused Das’ former advocate, Naresh Nayak filed a discharge petition on Wednesday.
