While the mystery behind police ASI Gopalkrushna Das killing Health Minister Naba Das is yet to be cracked, the Crime Branch on Tuesday visited Gopalkrushna’s ancestral home at Jaleswarpur village under B N Pur police limits in Berhampur. 

Gopalkrushna’s wife has been staying at their Jaleswarpur village house since the murder of the Health Minister. To ascertain the reason behind the murder, the CB team visited Gopalkrushna’s house and interrogated his wife and other family members. 

On the other hand, another team of the Crime Branch on Tuesday visited the crime spot near Gandhi Chowk in Brajarajnagar. The team interrogated Naba Das’ driver and personal security officer (PSO).   

The Crime Branch is trying to find out answers to the questions like why and how the accused ASI killed the Minister. 

Notably, ASI Gopal Das was deployed for traffic management at Gandhi Chowk on Sunday, as late Health Minister Naba Das was scheduled to attend a programme nearby. At the scheduled time. Naba Das reached the spot in his vehicle. As he was alighting from his car, Gopal Das came close to him and opened fire at the Minister, leading to a chaotic situation. 

Following the shot, Gopal Das was immediately overpowered by the security personnel and the severely injured Minister was rushed to Jharsuguda DHH. From there, he was airlifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. However, he succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment. 

The Crime Branch arrested the accused ASI on Monday. The same day, he was dismissed from his service. Later in the day, amid tight security, the Crime Branch produced Das before the JMFC’s residential court in Jharsuguda. While the CB sought a seven-day remand for Das, the court reserved its order. After the production, he was taken to Jharsuguda sub-jail.
