Mystery shrouded the death of an elderly woman and her son whose bodies were recovered from their house at Balramprasad village in Angul district. The deceased have been identified as Droupadi Sahu (70) and her son Ranjit.

As per reports, Droupadi was found lying in a pool of blood while the body of her son was found hanging in a room of their house on Saturday.

It is not clear whether it is a case of suicide or murder as Droupadi's body was found with her neck slit.

A relative Gagan Bihari Dehuri, "We came to know about the incident after one of our relatives called the deceased woman who was having some health issues. When she did not receive the phone, the relative then asked a neighbour to inquire. On reaching the spot, the neighbour and others found her son hanging in a room."

Dehuri further informed that the deceased's daughters are married and she was staying with her son.

"The deceased woman always used to pressurise her son to get married as her health condition was not good. Her son used to look after her very well. We do not know what has happened," Dehuri added.

Angul SDPO, Ramakant Mahalik said, "We have recovered both the bodies and sent them for postmortem. The deceased woman had a sharp cut on her neck while her son was found hanging. It is still very early to ascertain the exact reason behind the deaths. However, only after a detailed investigation, things will be clear."
