Mystery shrouds the death of a youth hours after he was allegedly picked by Abhaychandapur police in Paradip on Saturday. The family members of the deceased youth, identified as Manoranjan Gedi, have alleged custodial death.

The family members alleged that Manoranjan was picked by the cops in a narcotics case and was subjected to torture. Following his death, the post-mortem was conducted hurriedly at night.

The family further alleged that police informed about Manorajan’s death occurred in some accident. However, they suspect foul as police took Manoranjan to Jagatsinghpur hospital instead of taking him to Paradip.

“My son was never involved in any criminal activity. He was at home on the entire day. In evening, one of his friends came and he went along with him. Initially, police didn’t allow me to see my son’s body. I suspect some foul play as there was blood on my son’s nose while both his ears had swelling,” said deceased Manoranjan’s father.

The family is demanding an impartial probe into the case.

“Yesterday, we got information that two youths on a motorcycle were travelling with brown sugar. One of them was caught while another tried to flee the spot. However, he fell down while trying to escape,” said IIC of Abhaychandur police station, Jibanananda Jena.
