Tension ran high in Balianta area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Thursday after family members of a woman from Sareikela area of Jharkhand gheraoed the local police station alleging that she was murdered by her in-laws at Ranga Bazaar in Balianta.

The bereaved family members along with hundreds of villagers and members of Utkal Janai Sangha took out a rally today morning and marched towards the police station. After arriving at the police station, they staged a demonstration demanding action against the in-laws of the deceased.

The family members alleged that their daughter, Seema Sahu, who was living with her husband and in-laws at Ranga Bazaar in Balianta area, was murdered her September 24. They alleged that the in-laws are now trying to pass it off as a suicide case and lodged a complaint with the police but they are hardly showing any interest to give justice to their deceased daughter.

They said they had no other option left but to gherao the police station to press for their demand.

“Can any woman end life leaving her eight-year-old son? Her husband, mother-in-law, sister-in-law and brother-in-law murdered her,” alleged the deceased’s mother.

“My sister was murdered by her in-laws at Ranga Bazaar in Balianta area. The police are showing hardly any interest to investigate and punish the involved family members,” alleged the deceased’s relative.

The deceased’s sister said, “The police are doing nothing. It seems that a plan is there to hush up the case by taking bribe because they know we are from Jharkhand and can do nothing.”
